The on-chain turnover in Bitcoin has ended: Glassnode analysis
The on-chain analysis platform Glassnode stated that transactions on the Bitcoin blockchain have now changed style. In its latest report, the company wrote that Bitcoin now has a structure where large players can influence the price and volume through futures and derive transactions from outside the chain, rather than just being a system for small investors to buy and sell.
The daily transaction count has decreased, but…
The report stated that the daily transaction count has significantly decreased compared to 2023 and 2024, dropping from approximately 734,000 transactions daily to between 320,000 and 500,000 in 2025. However, the decrease in the number of transactions did not reduce the money in transactions. In other words, the number decreased but the amount increased.
It was reported that a significant portion of the transactions comes from large investors and that the transaction rate above 100 thousand dollars is 89%. According to the analysis, this situation clearly shows that almost all of the active users of the chain are large players.
Real volume in exchanges...
Although the on-chain volume is low, it was noted that the off-chain volume is 7-16 times higher than that of on-chain. It was emphasized that the majority of transactions are conducted through derivatives, options, ETFs, and spot exchanges.
"That era is over"
Futures contracts are generally preferred by institutional investors, which indicates that the increase on the derivatives side shows that professional and financial players are entering the market more. In fact, the report also stated, "The Bitcoin market has started to develop a derivatives-focused market structure."
"The era of 'Just look at on-chain activity' is coming to an end. Now, price formation and market movement are happening off-chain."
As a result, Glassnode indicates that on-chain activity in Bitcoin is no longer as active as it used to be, that small investors are not trading much, and that the main significant movements are occurring off-chain by institutions and funds.
