WFP: Haiti faces 'record' food crisis affecting millions of people

On April 18, local time, the United Nations World Food Programme warned that escalating violence, displacement, economic instability and disruption of local food production are causing "record famine" in Haiti, with millions of people at risk. According to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report published by the World Food Conservation Agency (WFP), 5.7 million people, representing more than half of Haiti's population, will face crisis or worsening food insecurity by June this year. Of these, more than 2 million people are expected to face "emergency" levels of food insecurity. Some 8,400 people will be in a state of "catastrophic food insecurity".
