Apple is said to be considering the application of artificial intelligence (AI) to speed up the custom chip design process for its devices. Speaking at the ITF World Conference in Belgium, Senior Vice President of Hardware Technology Johny Srouji stated that AI – particularly generative AI techniques – has great potential in shortening design time and increasing productivity.

Apple has used tools from EDA companies (electronic design automation) such as Cadence and Synopsys – entities that are also actively integrating AI into the chip design process. Although this is not the first time Apple has used AI in design, the new move shows that the company wants to further enhance the application of this technology in the development of chips for iPhone, Mac, and Vision Pro glasses.
