On January 2, according to the South Korean Ministry of National Defense, Deputy Minister of National Defense Kim Sang-ho, acting Minister of National Defense, met with U.S. Ambassador to South Korea Philip Goldberg at the Ministry of National Defense building. Both sides reiterated that the changing political and security environment facing the ROK-U.S. alliance remains as solid as a rock. Kim Sang-ho expressed gratitude to Goldberg for his efforts in promoting the development of the ROK-U.S. alliance since taking office in July 2022. He called on Goldberg to continue to play a central role in the future development of the relationship between the two countries. Goldberg stated that the U.S. will continue to support the strong ROK-U.S. alliance as always.
