Cosmos Hub explores diversified security strategies to promote new developments in Blockchain security
Recently, the product leader of Cosmos Hub initiated a discussion on the community forum regarding the consumer chain onboarding mechanism, aiming to explore more flexible inter-chain security solutions. In the context of increasingly intense competition for blockchain security, Cosmos Hub is actively positioning itself to strengthen its market position through diversified consumer chain strategies.
The discussion mainly focuses on two types of new consumer chain onboarding solutions: completely permissionless and lightweight permissioned. The completely permissionless solution allows developers to initiate consumer chains through simple transactions, with validators free to choose to join, benefiting from its openness and simplicity. The lightweight permissioned solution requires developers to submit governance proposals, which, after being approved by voting, will automatically onboard supporting validators to the new chain. This approach leverages existing governance mechanisms and raises the onboarding threshold.
In addition, the community is also discussing the "Top-N" scheme, which requires that the top n% of validators must run a consumer chain. This scheme has further derived two modes: inclusivity and exclusivity, which allow or restrict the participation of small validators, respectively.
It is worth noting that these new solutions each have their own strengths and weaknesses in terms of security and flexibility compared to existing replication security solutions. Replication security requires all validators to operate every consumer chain, providing the highest level of security but at a higher cost. Selective joining security offers more flexibility but faces the challenge of security volatility. Innovative solutions like mesh security allow for cross-chain staking, enabling mutual security enhancement between multiple chains.
Cosmos Hub is actively working to diversify its security solutions. The future consumer chain ecosystem is expected to be more diverse, including highly secure replicated security chains, flexible models without permission, and other intermediate solutions that meet different security needs. This diversification strategy not only caters to the needs of various projects but is also expected to enhance the value capture ability of ATOM.
With the continuous development of blockchain technology, security has become the core of competition among major platforms. Cosmos Hub demonstrates its forward-thinking in addressing market changes and technological challenges by exploring diversified security models. This spirit of innovation may bring new insights and momentum for the security development of the entire blockchain industry.
