Worldcoin: Cryptocurrency's Dystopian Nightmare

Original title: Worldcoin Is Everything That's Wrong With Cryptocurrency

Are you willing to give up your freedom and identity for some worthless token? A new crypto project just launched, and it's one of the worst and disgusting things ever.

This crap project called Worldcoin aims to "create a new identity and financial network that belongs to everyone".

The idea is to assign each individual a digital identity, which will help verify that they are real people. This can be used in many areas such as cybersecurity, governance, and even Universal Basic Income (UBI).

Sounds pretty good, right? But here's the catch: In order to register for Worldcoin and get your "World ID," you have to scan your eyeball with a spherical device. This seems to come from a George Orwell novel, but it's not. It's real, and it's happening while you're reading this. If you don't see the problem, let me explain.

Death of Liberty

Do you like your privacy? Being able to go anywhere you want, anytime? Maybe you have some weird hobbies or some private pleasures that make you a little embarrassing, but you don't care because no one knows.

In George Orwell's novel 1984, the entire world's population lives under the rule of a super-government headed by "Big Brother" — yes, that's where the TV show came from.

Big Brother sees everything, conducts constant surveillance of the population, and constantly instills ideology and order through propaganda to keep them consistent.

"Consistency." Remember that word.

Back to reality. By scanning your eyeball with Worldcoin's spherical device, you voluntarily give up your biometric information. Biometrics are one of the most reliable personal identification systems. In other words, by signing up for Worldcoin, you're not only revealing your identity to Sam Altman — you're allowing him to follow you around the clock.

for what? Some fictitious, worthless cryptocurrency that has no practical application other than attracting fools to give up their privacy for it. Remember, the head of this project is none other than Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI — possibly one of the most powerful AI companies in the world.

Forget about your awkward hobbies or quirks. That guy will be able to know where every penny you earn is spent. He might even make a copy of your iris, bypassing biometric checks, as if he were you. I'm not saying this will necessarily happen. But this is a possible event. In return, you only get some tokens that you will never use.

What is the point of doing this?

The exact purpose of this whole dystopian project seems to revolve around building a global identity and financial network, with centralized control under the pretext of addressing security and privacy concerns. The project, called Worldcoin, aims to assign each person a digital identity by scanning their irises with a spherical device, thereby achieving what they call "global-scale consistency."

However, it is this notion of "global consistency" and the requirement to provide biometric information that raises concerns about privacy and personal liberty. Embracing decentralized cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin could indeed offer solutions to some of the problems they purport to solve without compromising privacy and ceding control to centralized entities.

The George Orwellian tone of Worldcoin’s announcement added to the unease about the project’s true intentions. The analogy to Orwell's 1984, which paints a nightmarish vision of a society under constant surveillance and control, raises legitimate concerns about the potential dangers of such a system. Critics argue that such a project could place centralized control and surveillance above individual privacy and freedom.

Don't fall for the worldcoin scam

Who knows what control mechanisms they'll implement with this evil thing? I mean, these guys have been advocating central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) that are essentially like Worldcoin but without your biometric data. It's even worse. It might seem hyperbolic now, but this could be the start of something that escalates quickly. Just like looking at the development of ChatGPT.

Some things money can't buy. Freedom is one of them.

If you value your freedom—or, if there is any freedom left—stay away from these spherical devices. It's not worth it.
