SEC invites early-stage crypto projects to meet in Texas
SEC invites early-stage crypto projects to meet in Texas originally appeared on TheStreet.
Hester Peirce, the pro-crypto Commissioner at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), has now invited crypto firms for a meeting in September.
On Aug. 18, Peirce posted on X that the SEC is inviting small, early-stage crypto projects for a meeting in Fort Worth, Texas, on September 4. Those interested have been asked to email a brief description of their projects ahead of the meeting.
The SEC has done a complete 180° turnaround on cryptocurrency following President Donald Trump returning to the White House for the second time. Peirce, however, has remained a pro-crypto voice within the SEC for years now, earning the moniker "Crypto Mom."
When the regulator went after crypto firms during the last few years, Peirce criticized the approach and said regulation by enforcement is not the way forward. She also urged the SEC to greenlight crypto exchange-traded funds (ETFs).
Peirce has recently been appointed to head the SEC's crypto task force. When Trump signed the GENIUS Act, which deals with stablecoin regulation, Peirce hailed the decision "The signing of the GENIUS Act into law marks an important milestone in the effort to bring regulatory clarity to crypto—a necessary prerequisite for innovation in our markets to flourish and for the American public to benefit from that innovation," she said.
